Sorry I am running behind this morning. Storms in our area are causing us some drama this morning, but I will have a new Suzi uploaded before the end of the day!

A forgotten goodbye
“The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of starstuff.” – Carl Sagan

Unreal Suzi!
I have been hard at work doing the pre-production of Suzi’s first animated adventure, and I let the Tuesday comic slip. Normally I would be aggravated, but I am too excited for that now. You are looking at a fully rigged and Unreal Engine 4 Suzi! It took me quite a bit of time to learn the skills I needed to get this far, and I am keeping a full head of steam going. I will get the comic back on track for Tuesday, but in the meantime, let’s celebrate a mini-milestone in the animated adventures of Suzi!

Sunday Science: Crowd sourced astronomy
The Ultrascope is a 3D printed telescope that uses the 41 megapixel smartphone Lumia 1020 to give average citizens their own personal observatories. The plans are being released under an Open Source license by the Open Space Agency. While the Lumia 1020 is a bit pricey for my tastes, the overall concept is outstanding. As 3D printers come down in price, it won’t be long before you can build some amazing projects right at home. I think we are entering some exciting times for amateur astronomy and astrophotography.
Check out the plans for the Ultrascope and sign up for the beta here!

Wildstar!
I got a free pass to the Wildstar MMO, and it’s growing on me. I played the beta and liked it, but I didn’t like it enough to spend $50 on. After getting back on and playing for a few days, the game is starting to grow on me. I enjoy the stylized, almost cartoonish look of Wildstar (and WoW) better than the realistic looks of Neverwinter and Star Trek Online. If you play Wildstar, shoot me a note and we can run around go wild.

Real life heroes
“Competing with oneself, is conducive to continued learning.” I would like to take a second and salute Major Mariam Al Mansouri, F-16 fighter pilot of the UAE. This week, Major Al Mansouri led airstrikes against ISIS (or ISIL, depending on the news services). To become a pilot is a challenging enough, but to become a fighter pilot, that’s very rare. Major Al Mansouri’s dedication to her education, and her passion for her field sets an example for future generations. We need more people like Major Mariam Al Mansouri. You can read more about Major Al Mansouri here.
